
Getting the Heat Right in Your Bathroom
When you’re picking out a bathroom heater, the temptation is to just grab the one with the biggest number on the box. But that’s usually a mistake. It’s really more about finding the sweet spot for your specific room size. We use shortwave infrared lamps for a reason: they don’t waste time trying to heat up all the air in the room. Instead, they warm you and your skin directly. It’s an instant feeling of warmth.
Finding Your Number
You’ve got to match the wattage to the actual footprint of your bathroom. If you’ve just got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a single 400W to 600W lamp is plenty. But for those big master baths—the 8m² to 12m² kind—you’ll want a few lamps working together or some beefier units in the 800W to 1200W range. That’s the only way to make sure the whole room feels cozy. Here’s the thing: if you go too powerful, you end up with “hot spots” that feel oppressive. On the flip side, if you go too low, you’ll be shivering while the heater struggles to keep up, wasting electricity in the process.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
Under the hood, most of our units use quartz glass tubes filled with halogen gas. It sounds technical, but it basically just means the filament can get hotter without burning out. We also use R7s connectors. Why? Because when a tube eventually gives out years down the road, you can just pop a new one in without calling an electrician. The glass coating matters too. Clear quartz lets those shortwave IR rays dive deep into your skin and clothes. It’s that “instant thaw” feeling the second you step under it.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
More power means you get warm faster, but it also puts a heavier load on your wiring. Just double-check that your circuits can handle the draw so you aren’t tripping breakers every time you take a shower. And please, be careful with where you mount these. A 1200W lamp puts out a lot of concentrated heat. If you hang it too low, it’s not a heater anymore—it’s a hazard. Always check your mounting height against the wattage to keep things safe and comfortable.
