
Why Your Shower Heater Shouldn’t Be a Time Bomb
When you’re picking out heaters for a bathroom or a shower, there are two things that usually kill the unit: water getting where it shouldn’t and “thermal shock.” Now, an IP65 rating is great for the outer shell. It keeps the dust out and stops a stray spray of water from frying the electronics. But the real danger? That’s the heating element itself. If a single cold droplet hits a standard quartz tube running at 800°C, the whole thing can shatter. It’s not a pretty sight.
The secret to quartz that doesn’t pop
To stop that from happening, we use explosion-proof quartz glass. Here is the deal: regular glass expands and contracts a lot when the temperature swings. When cold water hits a hot tube, the surface shrinks way faster than the center. That tension is what causes the glass to crack or, in worst-case scenarios, explode. We use a modified chemical mix in our tubing to keep that expansion rate low. It lets the glass handle those wild temperature jumps without breaking a sweat—or a shard.
Keeping things dry
A waterproof box is a good start, but it’s only half the battle. We spend a lot of time sealing the connection points. Moisture is sneaky; it loves to creep into the wiring where you least expect it. If you’re installing this in a steamy room, you’ve got to make sure that junction box is tight. The IP65 chassis handles the circuitry, but the quartz tube is the one doing the heavy lifting with the heat.
A few things to keep in mind
These heaters are fantastic because they use short-wave infrared. You feel the warmth the second you turn them on—no waiting around for the air in the room to warm up. But there’s a catch. Quartz getshot. Really hot. You have to make sure whatever you’re mounting it near can take the heat. If you put this too close to cheap PVC or plastic trim, you’re going to end up with a melted mess. Just give it some breathing room. At the end of the day, using explosion-proof quartz means you don’t have to worry about glass shards in your shower. It just works, and it stays safe.
