
Why your bathroom heater shouldn’t feel like a tanning bed
Most infrared lamps just blast light everywhere. It’s harsh, it’s blinding, and honestly? It’s a bit much for a bathroom. When we design these for homes—especially for parents with babies—we stop worrying about how much raw heat we can pump out and start focusing on the light itself. Nobody wants a heater that feels like a spotlight in an interrogation room. You just want to feel warm.
Keeping it easy on the eyes
Standard short-wave lamps give off a lot of visible light. To fix that, we use special coatings or filtered quartz tubes. Think of it like putting sunglasses on the bulb. These filters block out that piercing blue light and the bright white glare. Instead, the lamp pushes out long-wave infrared. This means the heat goes straight to your skin rather than just heating up the air around you. The light stays soft. It’s way better for babies, whose eyes are still developing and can get tired quickly from too much brightness.
Dealing with the steam
Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the humidity and the steam, things short out fast. To stop that, we wrap everything in waterproof, IP-rated housings. Inside, we use halogen-filled quartz tubes. Halogen is great because it lets the lamp run hot without burning out in a few weeks. We also spent a lot of time on the reflector shape. It’s designed to push all that warmth straight down onto you, which keeps the actual fixture cool to the touch. No one wants to accidentally burn their hand while reaching for a towel.
The trade-off
Here’s the catch: when you filter the light, you lose a bit of efficiency. Because the lamp isn’t “clear,” it doesn’t feel as intense immediately. To get that same cozy warmth, the lamp might need to run a bit longer or use a higher wattage. Just a heads-up—if you’re installing a few of these 600W to 1000W units, double-check your wiring. You don’t want to be standing in a cold shower because you tripped the breaker.
