
The Secret to Infrared Heaters That Don’t Blind You
When we design infrared lamps for bathrooms, we’re basically fighting a tug-of-war. On one side, you need a ton of heat to warm up a damp, chilly room. On the other, you can’t just blast someone—especially a baby—with a light so bright it feels like staring into the sun. Standard shortwave lamps have a nasty habit of creating this blinding glare. It’s not just annoying; it’s hard on the eyes. So, we change the way the light behaves. Keeping the eyes safe The trick is all in the filtering. We use special coatings or doped quartz glass to kill off the visible light and those nasty UV peaks. By pushing the energy into the medium or long-wave infrared bands, the lamp sends out heat without that aggressive white light. You feel the warmth hitting your skin, but you aren’t squinting or worrying about sensitive optic nerves. It’s a much gentler experience. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Everything has to be sealed tight (IP-rated) because steam loves to find its way into sockets. We also use high-purity quartz tubes. Why? Because if you flip a switch in a freezing, humid bathroom, a cheap tube will just crack from the thermal shock. These don’t. They just work. The honest trade-offs Here’s the thing: you can’t get something for nothing. When we block that visible light to protect your eyes, you lose a bit of the “glow.” It’s less flashy, but it’s way safer. And the reflectors have to be perfect. If the mirror finish is dull, you lose heat density. To make up for it, the lamp has to run hotter, which burns out the filament faster. Plus, you’ve got to use heat-resistant cabling. If you don’t, the insulation will literally melt after a few months of heavy use. Nobody wants that.
